The investor update and the board pack, built from books that are already closed.
A monthly investor update and a quarterly board pack both need numbers that trace back to the books. We build both from your accounts once they are closed for the month. The update, the board pack and the audited accounts at year end all say the same thing.
- Tied to the books, so nothing contradicts later
- Delivered on the dates your agreement sets
- A reply the same working day
An example of how it goes.
What we do for you.
- We build your monthly investor update from the closed books.
- Revenue, burn, runway, cash and collections, plus the two or three numbers your investors track for a business like yours. For a SaaS company that is monthly recurring revenue and churn. For a D2C brand it is contribution margin and customer acquisition cost, each explained in plain words.
- We build your quarterly board pack.
- Profit and loss against budget, the balance sheet, cash flow, and the cap table. We also list the questions a board member is likely to ask, with the answer next to each one.
- Every number ties back to the books.
- What investors see each month is the same set of numbers that reach the audited accounts at year end. The same numbers reach your audited accounts at year end.
- We track the dates in your shareholders' agreement.
- The agreement sets when a monthly update is due, when the quarterly pack is due, and when the audited annual accounts are due. We track all three dates in the same calendar as your tax dates.
- We keep your data room current between rounds.
- The papers an investor asked for in the last round stay updated, so the next round or the next board question does not start from zero.
- We walk through the pack with you before it goes out.
- A monthly call where we go through the board pack line by line, so you know every number in it before an investor sees it.
Your side of it.
Small things, sent any way you like. We do the rest.
- Your shareholders' agreement, so we know the dates and what each report has to contain
- The numbers you track that do not live in the books, such as users or orders
- An hour before each board meeting
The monthly update sits inside the monthly report we already build for you. The board pack is a separate piece of work, agreed in writing before it starts.
What founders ask about investor reporting.
What goes in a monthly investor update?
Revenue, burn, runway, cash and collections, and the two or three metrics that matter for your model. A SaaS company gets monthly recurring revenue and churn. A D2C brand gets contribution margin and customer acquisition cost. Each number is explained in plain words, not left as a label.
My investor asks for numbers the books do not have. What then?
Some numbers, such as users or orders, live outside the accounts. You send us those, and we add them to the update next to the numbers we already have. Tell us once and we ask for the same figure every month.
Can you join the board meeting?
A senior person from PageX can join the call and answer questions on the numbers. The walkthrough call before the meeting is where most questions get raised and answered, so few are left for the room.
What if the numbers are bad?
The report shows what happened, whatever that is. We flag the number that needs an explanation before the update goes out, and we help you write that explanation in the same call.
How is this different from the MIS report?
The monthly MIS report is built for running the business day to day. Investor reporting takes the same closed books and adds what an investor needs: runway, the metrics in your shareholders' agreement, and the board pack every quarter.
